NS1 camshafts are for individuals that desire more power and an extended rpm range. Works well with stock or near-stock R50 and R53 engines, providing excellent low end and mid-range power for spirited street and off road driving. Modifications that would enhance this cam includes header, low restriction exhaust, aftermarket CAI and a performance ignition. To maximize the potential, an ECU re-map is recommended. The NS1 cam works well with all manual and automatic transmissions.

Quality Core
The NS series Performance re-machined Camshafts use the stock BMW camshaft core as the base to machine performance level specification without the use of costly raw billets. These camshafts are already proven with a success of over millions of miles running since 2001 when the first new BMW Mini Coopers were introduced.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect for power from the NS1?
Your gains will depend on your other engine modification(s). Generally increases can vary between 4-6whp or more. But really, this cam is not about peak horsepower, but is more about increased torque in the 2500-6000 RPM range, the RPM range that is most commonly used.
Can I install the cam myself?
If you are experienced with working on an engine and familiar with the head and related parts it can be done in about 3-4 hours with basic tools. Some use BMW camshaft locking tool (# 11 8 250) for removing and retorquing the cam gear bolt, but it's also easy to put the car in gear and have a helper lock the engine with the brake pedal as well. (This is the technique that Matt used when doing his head and cam).
Do I need to add any other engine modification with the cam?
The short answer is no. The NS1 was designed to improve torque on cars that don't live in the high RPM relm of racing and dedicated track vehicles. It will deliver real world performace gains in the mid-range, where most cars spend most of thier time. While good benefits are realized with a completely stock engine, the NS1 works well with modified engines as well, and won't require a tune to maintain a good idle quality. But like all performance parts, custom tuning will deliver the most gains possible.
I'd like to get a dry lubricant coating on the cam. Does FES provide that service?
Not directly, but we can help with that! We can ship the cam directly to a local coater of your choosing, or Cradin Industries and they can coat it for you. Because we don't have to mark up the service, it will save you some money. Contact them directly to arrange for coating and shipping to you.
How does the core charge work?
When you install your NS cam, keep all the packaging. Repackage your stock cam in the same materials that your NS cam was shipped in, and use the enclosed address label. When we recieve your usable cam (if it's scored or otherwise damaged, it will be rejected), we'll refund the $50 core charge (and any applicable sales tax) to whatever method you orginally used to pay.
How long do I have to return my core?
We'd like you to try to return the core within a couple of weeks. But if you have to take longer, just call us to let us know. We're flexible at FES, and will do whatever we reasonably can to accomidate your scheduling.
